Not to be confused with James Nisbet Channel 4’s drama suspected From early this year, The Suspect is a new movie coming to ITV this August.
The five-part series stars Aidan Turner as a clinical psychologist who is brought in to help with a case that may be murder or may be suicide. However, do his motives look the same, or does he have a dark secret?
The series also stars Sean Parks and Anjali Mohendra, with the latter revealing that she researched real murder cases to inform her of her role in the series.
Mohindra said: “I focused on what it would feel like to be a woman dealing with an issue like this — with the case of Sarah Everard and Sabina Nyssa… I mean, we all know what it feels like to be a woman in this country or on this planet right now with things happening. Like this.
“It was great to play those moments when you see a female police officer’s reaction to a crime like that.”

What is the subject of the suspect?
The Suspect is based on Michael Robotham’s novel of the same name and focuses on Joe O’Loughlin, played by Aidan Turner.
The series’ official synopsis states that O’Loughlin “appears to have a perfect life – a devoted wife, loving daughter, successful practice as a clinical psychologist, media profiler, and publishing deal. He’s even an internet hero after saving a sick young man who was willing to jump out The tenth floor of the hospital where Joe works.”
He continues: “When a young woman is found in a shallow grave in a west London cemetery, veteran police officer De Vincent Ruiz and his young partner Dr. are tasked with committing suicide?
“As a successful author, Dr. Joe’s opinion is much sought after and when he meets DS Devi he is very willing to offer help with profiling and his expertise.
“Now known for his risky and rule-breaking, does Joe have more to hide? His recent diagnosis of a degenerative condition could explain his behavior. But as the investigation into Catherine’s death accelerates, we begin to wonder, do we know the real Joe, or does he have a secret life? And is his work as a psychiatrist?” He was allowed to develop a criminal mentality, or worse?
