(screen) Play Press launches, announces six inaugural titles

Mexican-American director Eva Arriges announced today the launch of (Screen) Play Press, which will publish scripts that have not yet been developed into feature films. Founded by Aridjis and fellow director and screenwriter Christine Fartogian over a cup of coffee last May, the first of six titles published by (Screen) Play Press are specifically featured texts written by women. Each title will be available in hard copies and e-book.

“What we really like to emphasize is the number of great unproduced scenarios that we know exist, and our desire to get these stories out to the world regardless of whether or not a movie version of them exists,” says Arriges. director By email. “We believe that a great script has just as much literary value as a play, or any other kind of print fiction.”

Animal Originally written by the Aridjis over 20 years ago, the movie was almost made on two separate occasions. However, in the process of distributing the script in the US and Mexico, I noticed that many people “borrowed” ideas from her screenplay and combined them into various projects. By publishing screenplays before you turn them into movies, you may be less likely to be plagiarized. “The books seem to be treated with more respect than the script,” she says.

Aridjis says the publisher plans to distribute 18-24 books each year, always in batches of six. Each version of the published scenarios will cater to distinct demographics and author types in order to ensure a wealth of diversity among Play Press (screen) outputs.

“We also hope to create a library of sorts that industrial people looking for great materials can turn to,” she adds. “We still hope that these scenarios will turn into movies one day – especially since most of our writers are also distinguished directors – but we don’t want the appreciation of these scenarios to depend on that either.”
